Our core strategy for addressing the peyote crisis in Texas and Mexico is creating land access for ecological harvest (promoting regrowth), re-establishment of plant populations (replanting), and a system of conservation management and distribution (assessments, rancher incentives, & policy), fundamentally tied to indigenous sovereignty.


Ecological and Spiritual Harvest

How can we recreate a direct connection between peyote people and their medicine? How can we ensure utilization of a medicine way of life for many generations to come?

  • Our spiritual homesite in the gardens serves as home to conservation managers who will be licensed distributors and not only tend our homesite, but conduct replanting and proper harvest on the network of ranch lands we lease from allied land owners. Many of these land owners are happy to be returning to direct relationships with the Native American ceremony people.

  • Each harvest will be conducted in an ecologically and spiritually respectful way. this begins with a spiritual offering and is done in a biologically informed way that promotes regrowth for long-term sustainability.  The harvested medicine will be shared with indigenous peyote people as a not-for-profit offering for only the money it takes to manage these spiritual and ecological harvests.


  • Each ranch where we harvest will have an ecological assessment and we will only harvest from places that are healthy and abundant. Other places will be replanted and left till they are ready. No medicine will be harvested when still a baby or in a way that will prevent it from growing pups.


We expect to begin distribution in 2021.


Traditional Knowledge

For the future of our Medicine, our youth must understand where it comes from, how to take care of it, its' life cycle and ceremonies. The spiritual homesite is a pan-tribal place where many languages are heard, where people can bring their offerings, prayers and hopes and attend to them directly in their own place, where many children grow up knowing their medicine and culture. The ‘Spiritual Homesite” master plan was developed with our vision as we imagined, “What is here in one hundred years, when all of us are gone?” What will it be like here for our grandchildren as they support the conservation of the medicine for their grandchildren?”

We have begun constructing buildings with adobe so that in the future there will be places for families to camp, children to play, elders to be comfortable, and NAC members to eat and pray together; providing a place for direct and prayerful connection to our medicine in its natural habitat.

Connecting to the cycle of life of our medicine, also means returning the seeds and fluff back to the gardens. When we clean our medicine, the parts we don’t utilize can go back to be nutrition for the soil and future plants once there is a rain.


Once you clean your medicine and prepare it for ceremony it can be sent back to the Gardens’ in S. Texas by mail and a member of the IPCI Conservation Committee will collect it and spread it in an area on the Spiritual Homesite where many baby medicines already grow. It is a natural nursery.




In our history, families would travel to the gardens, they would stay, make offerings and harvest enough medicine for their families and communities for the year. Today, the relationships with land-owners are mostly lost, Grandma Amada is not there in Mirando City to welcome us and it is much more difficult to find a way to have time in the gardens.


Now we have a place that belongs to all indigenous peyote peoples.


You, your chapter, your family, youth groups can come and camp and breathe the same air as the medicine: Azee, Pejuta, Hikori and bring your prayers to the offering garden. Perhaps there is an important prayer/ceremony that would best be taken care of in the native home of the medicine.


The camping sites and bathhouse on the land are for use by indigenous medicine peoples of the America’s.  IPCI will also host Pilgrimage visits in conjunction with ABNDN, NAC-OK, NACSD and NACNA at various times throughout the year. Once we have group leases secured you will be able to conduct harvests with the support of our Conservation Manager.
